EVER WONDERED HOW TO INVEST IN AN IPO?

Or maybe where to start in the BIG BIG Stock Market Industry? Well! Even though there is no absolute measure to this we might have a small push required by you to star!
Heard about IPOs?
IPO’s or Initial Public Offering is the Company’s very first invitation given to the general public to invest in their shares and consequently the Company gets listed on the Stock Exchange (in India we have two big Stock Exchanges- NSE & BSE).

Types of IPO?

The very first type (and more common type) is known as the FIXED PRICE OFFERING. Here the Company, in advance, informs the price of the concerning IPO. Here the potential investor has to accept the offer to pay in full while applying and thereafter wait to check (on the dates announced) whether the said shares have been allotted to them. In case the shares are not allotted to them, the money (if blocked/ ASBA) gets credited back to their respective Bank Account.

The Second Type is known as the BOOK BUILDING OFFERING, wherein the stock price is given in pre-decided band (approx. 20%). The lower level is known as the floor price and the upper limit is called the cap price. This measure is usually adopted by the Companies who wish to check the interest of the potential investors before declaring the final price

How to check your eligibility status?

You need to have a Demat Account for applying in an IPO. It’s easy to open one (pssst..some of the top brokers commit to open an account before the pizza gets delivered to you). Also, minors can apply in IPOs (their Demat account will have the details of their Guardian until they reach the age of 18years in India).

Once your trading cum demat account gets active you need to check for the ASBA facility or the Application Supported by Blocked Amount Facility. This is a MANDATE. In simple terms ASBA authorizes your bank (linked with your demat) to block the amount required as per your application size. This is where our country has succeeded towards making paperless transaction. With ASBA in the scenario you do not have to provide for any cheques or give Demand Drafts.

Some leading stock broking companies have made applying for an IPO-a cakewalk. By simply following simple steps you can APPLY for IPOs in a jiffy!

LOOK BEFORE YOU INVEST is the new Look Before You Leap

Kindly do some homework and do not plainly rely on your broker/ relative/ friend’s advice. It’s your money that is to be invested which has a substantial effect on your Portfolio.

Check for the Company Financials to know their actual scenario in the market (watch out on their Debt levels)

Read their prospectus- we all know it’s a LOOOOOONG process, but trust me just knowing to read the right part will help you acquire some knowledge and answer your FAQs like

To invest or skip?

    • Why does the Company want the money for?
    • What has been the profitability status in the last few years?
    • What the Company into and which part of the operations is it seeking the Investment for?
    • Who are the Directors and the Key Managerial Personnel?
    • Who are their Underwriters/ Merchant Bankers/ Brokers?

Well the list can go on and on, so take some time out and READ the prospectus and you will have us providing you the true and key insights on the market performance IPOs. Check their website. Also check their market status and the on-going news about their subscription ( StockHaat will guide you to make the decision) Be skeptic and clear your doubts. Watch out for the Lock-up periods (you cannot sell the shares, so allotted, for a stipulated period of time)

How do you know whether you have been allotted the shares you had applied for?

Of course, here comes the IPOs deal breaker day and it gets announced as to how has the IPO performed in simple words, whether you have been allotted the number of shares you had applied for or not? You will see when exceptional Companies come up with their IPO they get oversubscribed and then spreads the word. It’s like how everyone enquires your Exam results the same way you will be asked by your folks about the IPO being allotted to you or not!. And obviously, if the shares get allotted to you, the money blocked under ASBA gets debited from your bank account and the shares get credited to your Demat Account. With the 2021 knocking on the door, take some investment resolutions in hand and keep looking for StockHaat because we understand that money saved and well invested is money earned.2
